Housing group picks up top rating

16 November 2017 - Latest news

One of the region’s largest landlords has picked up a top rating from the Homes and Communities Agency for its governance.

believe housing, which provides over 18,000 affordable homes stretching from rural Weardale to the Durham coast, has received a top rating for its governance.

The housing association, set up in April 2015, has been recognised by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) for the work it has done to improve its operational structures and governance.

In a judgement issued today, the housing group was given a top ‘G1’ score on governance by the HCA. In the judgement, the agency noted that: “believe housing has strengthened its control framework and eliminated elements of duplication and inefficiency. It is now better placed to adequately control organisational activity and support the delivery of its aims.”

believe housing was last assessed in March 2016 when it was handed a lower ‘G2’ rating.

believe housing Chief Executive, Bill Fullen, said: “This is testament to the effort that everyone across the group has made to ensure that we are governed effectively. It also validates the approach we took to address the complexities we were faced with when the group was first established.

“We won’t be resting on our laurels though, we’ll continue to work hard to deliver better affordable homes for people across County Durham, support our tenants in areas such as employability, and work with community groups to improve our neighbourhoods.”

believe housing is also in the process of delivering 300 new affordable homes across the region with projects in towns and villages including Rookhope, Pity Me and Seaham.
