severe weather conditions

8 January 2021 - Latest news

Due to severe weather conditions across County Durham, we will only be handling emergency repairs requests from Friday, 8 January 2021 until further notice.

Heavy snow has affected large parts of the north east and is causing disruption on roads.

Repairs and Property Experience Manager at believe housing, Tony Jones, said: “The snowfall has had a huge impact on our ability to get to customers. Right now, there are several vans stuck in various parts of the county. Even where our trades people can get through, everything is taking longer.

“We appreciate that this is a further frustration for our customers and we’ll do everything we can to get things back on track as soon as possible. At the moment we do expect the impact of this weather to last some time though, particularly in the higher and more remote towns and villages we work in.

“In the meantime all I can do is apologise and reassure customers that we will get to emergency repairs as quickly as we physically can.”

Emergency repairs are any defects that put the health, safety or security of properties, customers or anyone else at immediate risk.

This includes:

  • total loss of electrical power and lighting
  • total loss of water
  • total loss of heating
  • serious water leak
  • dangerous structure
  • blocked flue on an open fire
  • serious sewerage fault
  • insecure external windows and doors.

To report an emergency repair, please call 0300 1311 999.
