Support brings festive cheer to Langley Moor

A small grant from one of the north east’s largest housing associations has helped to brighten up a County Durham community this Christmas.

Langley Moor, on the outskirts of Durham, is celebrating Christmas in style thanks to funding from County Durham Housing Group.

The community has been able to erect and light its own Christmas tree on the main road through the area thanks to £500 from County Durham Housing Group’s ‘County Durham Housing Group community grant’ funding programme. Organised by the Friends of Langley Moor, the illuminated tree has been erected in a prominent position just off the A690 and is seen by thousands of people every day.

Choirs from Langley Moor Primary School and St Patrick’s Primary School performed carols at the switch-on event, which was attended by a large audience.

County Durham Housing Group Funding Officer, Damian Pearson, said: “The community in Langley Moor take great pride in brightening up the area at Christmas time. We were very happy to help make the installation possible this year. It really brings the community together.”

Danny Bone, Chair of the Friends of Langley Moor said: “This was our seventh Christmas tree switch on event and again it was really well supported. Our events are only made possible by securing funding each year from local businesses and organisations. We were delighted with the generous contribution this year from County Durham Housing Group.”

Full details of the County Durham Housing Group community grant scheme are available here.

Any community organisation, non-profit making group, charity or school working in the areas served by County Durham Housing Group is eligible for the scheme. Applications are welcome from groups in most of east Durham, central Durham and Weardale, plus towns and villages like Pity Me, Bishop Auckland and Sherburn.
