universal credit help available

25 October 2018 - Latest news

The latest advice on Universal Credit is available to all believe housing customers.

With so much conflicting news about the single benefit, it can be difficult to keep track of what you’re entitled to. But experts from believe housing’s Universal Credit Team have already helped thousands of tenants who are struggling with the new system.

Universal Credit is a single payment scheme that is replacing several benefits including Employment Support Allowance, Income Support, Jobseekers Allowance, Housing Benefit, Child Tax Credit and Working Tax Credit. All claimants under pensionable age in Durham city are included in the digital rollout, including couples and families.

The system has now been rolled out in Durham, Peterlee, Bishop Auckland and Seaham, meaning thousands of believe housing customers are now receiving Universal Credit payments.

Anita Lowther, Universal Credit Team Leader, said: “It’s very easy to be confused by such a complicated system covering so many different circumstances. Lots of customers still feel like they don’t have all the information they need. But our team are real experts in the whole process surrounding Universal Credit.

“We can offer one-to-one guidance and support to help if mistakes have been made, and can help to correct any issues by working with the Department for Work and Pensions.”
