A Willington-based roller hockey team have ‘pucked’ up funding from one of the region’s largest providers of affordable housing.

Spectrum Roller Hockey Team has a smart new look thanks to support from believe housing. The popular team, made up of youngsters from the Crook and Willington area, has been awarded £480 through the housing provider’s ‘believe housing community grant’ programme.

The funding will allow the team to replace their faded and ill-fitting kits with smart new strips.

believe housing Funding Officer, Damian Pearson, said: “The team provides great opportunities for the young people involved. Roller hockey is a great way to keep fit and being part of a team helps everyone involved grow in confidence and take pride in their community.

“Our believe housing community grant programme was created to help grass roots clubs and organisations like Spectrum Roller Hockey Team. What might seem like a small amount of funding can make a major impact.”

The application process for ‘believe housing community grant’ has been kept deliberately simple and funding decisions will be made monthly to ensure local groups are not waiting for lengthy periods to find out if they have been successful.
