Job seeking customers of believe housing can apply to work for the housing association after it created five New Start paid work placements exclusively for tenants.
All five positions are part-time administrative roles, working in different teams across the business.
Two will work in the Property Repairs Team, offering admin support to teams which maintain homes, make adaptations, and prepare empty homes for new customers.
The Rechargeable Repairs Administrator will help to ensure resources are appropriately protected in the interest of current and future customers.
The Marketing and Customer Experience Administrator will help make sure customers moving into a new build home with believe housing receive a fantastic experience and customer service.
And the Culture Administrator will help teams deliver of a range of activities to support colleagues and their development.
The positions are open to people aged 25 or older who have no prior experience in admin, which may have been a barrier to applying for other jobs.
Each will work 15 hours a week and will be paid the living wage.
The innovative New Start programme will provide wraparound one-to-one support from an employability coordinator and they can gain a Level 2 qualification.
At the end of the six-month contract, they are guaranteed an interview for any entry-level job at believe housing.
These roles have been funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund – Government funding allocated to Durham County Council to support communities, places, businesses, people and skills.

“These are rewarding and interesting roles, with holistic wraparound support to help the successful applicants with their future.
“Previous New Start roles have not only increased prospects for customers and led to secure, fulltime employment but they’ve also helped us to find talented, hardworking colleagues who simply needed an opportunity to start a new career.”
Believe housing is one of 12 social housing providers that form part of the Housing Employment Network North East (HENNE), which is a regional collaborative initiative brought together to improve employability support and job opportunities for social housing tenants and residents. New Start was developed by HENNE partners to provide tailored opportunities for candidates to get a foot in the door with the support of local businesses.
And it is a partner in Durham Employment Connections (DEC) which brings together employment and skills services to support the local business community by addressing labour and skills shortages and supporting residents into roles.
