Residents and the wider community are being invited to share their views on early proposals for the future of a site in Easington, County Durham.
The Petwell Crescent site could provide up to 38 new affordable homes in the future, following the planned demolition of the existing bungalows.
The proposals by believe housing follow consultation with tenants in 2024, which led to the difficult decision to demolish the existing homes.
Significant investment would have been needed to bring them up to a modern standard, and due to issues with the layout, energy efficiency, flood risk and the overall condition of the buildings, as well as some homes already being empty, this was not considered viable.
Support remains in place for customers still living at Petwell Crescent, with help available to find and relocate to suitable alternative homes, and they have been kept informed about the consultation on the future of the site.
While no date has been set for demolition, early planning is now underway for the long-term regeneration of the site.
Initial proposals include 25 bungalows and 13 houses, with a mix of two and three-bedroom homes. Most of the homes will be available through social rent, with a small number available for affordable home ownership to help meet local housing demand.
The plans are still at an early stage and will continue to be shaped by feedback from the community before any planning application is submitted to Durham County Council.
Local people are invited to view the proposals, ask questions and share feedback with the project team at a public consultation event.
The drop-in event will take place at Seaton Holme, Easington Village, Peterlee, SR8 3BS, on Thursday, 4 June 2026, between 3pm and 6pm.
