winter warmers: keeping fit and well
It’s important to look after yourself in winter to reduce the risk of illness and protect yourself from the cold.
The government has produced a range of tips to keep yourself fit and well when it’s cold outside:
- Get an annual flu jab – contact your GP or pharmacist for more information.
- Eat well -have regular and varied meals, including five portions of fruit and vegetables, and plenty of hot drinks.
- Stay active – exercise is good for your overall health and can help to keep you warm.
- Recognise the signs of hypothermia – there are different levels of hypothermia and older people are one of the most at-risk groups. Shivering can be used as a guide as to how severe the case may be. Contact your GP if you are concerned about your or a friend or family member’s condition.
