installing a key safe: what customers need to know

believe housing is reminding customers to check a few important points before installing a key safe, to help keep homes safe and avoid issues with home insurance.

Key safes and permission

Key safes are allowed without permission, but they must:

  • be suitable, fit for purpose and installed in line with the manufacturer’s instructions

Key safes must not be installed on homes with external wall insulation under any circumstances.

Check home insurance

Customers are responsible for checking that a key safe is permitted under their home insurance policy and whether any conditions apply.

Keeping your home secure

Customers should also:

  • choose a good-quality, secure key safe
  • install it properly (in line with the manufacturer’s instructions) and in a discreet location
  • only share the code with trusted people and change it regularly.

You said, we did
